Field Test Technician (General Laborer)

Quast Consulting and Testing, Inc. is looking for motivated individuals to join our field testing team.  QCT is an exterior wall testing company based out of Mosinee, WI.   Our mission is to verify the performance of exterior walls systems for air and water leakage.  These are heavy commercial projects, working on elevated platforms safely is mandatory.  Technicians would be departing from Wisconsin and traveling to various parts of the mid-west.  QCT will provide all training necessary to perform the required job duties.  80% of our work is conducted in the greater Chicagoland area.  Employees are to be prepared to travel Monday through Friday.  Weekends are not a requirement.  Typical day to day job requirements are as follows;

  • Ability to pass random drug testing
  • A clean driving record in order to drive company vehicles
  • Mobilize to and from various jobsites
  • Communicate with the test crew and clients
  • Ability to work as a team to achieve daily goals
  • Carpentry Skills are a plus, training will be provided
  • General Labor skills
  • Ability to lift 30lbs frequently
  • Building temporary enclosures at the direction of the team lead

For projects located in the Chicagoland area, QCT has secured a 3,500 square foot house that sits on 2.5 acres adjacent to a forest preserve. Employees are encouraged to make this their “home away from home.” When traveling to other areas outside of Chicago, hotel lodging is provided.  QCT pays your full wage while traveling, as well as a daily Per Diem.  All safety training and safety equipment is provided by QCT.

Exterior Building Envelope Consultant

Roles & Responsibilities
Assess

  • Conduct on site investigations and field review of existing buildings
  • Review background documentation to determine original construction detailing and identify area of risk for water penetration, air leakage, and/or condensation

Evaluate

  • Prepare and present reports and presentations of findings that document the existing conditions and evaluate future risks and provide recommendations for rehabilitation and/or maintenance
  • Collection and storage of evidence for expert opinion reports

Design

  • Participate in design meetings with owners, developers, architects, and/or other consultants
  • Provide design recommendations and design review of building enclosure assemblies and details
  • Conduct drawing, detail and specification reviews
  • Review manufacturer’s shop drawings for conformance with the project intent, performance with respect to the various building science principles, and for any scheduling or work issues

Oversee

  • Review construction for conformance to contract documents and overall design intent and prepare site visit reports

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of residential, commercial, and institutional building design and construction
  • Extensive knowledge of building enclosure design principles, architectural/building enclosure detailing and building codes
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to clients, employees, and other industry stakeholders via written reports and presentations
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and teach staff of all career levels in order to enrich and further professional development
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage and shift focus between changing priorities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, architecture or related discipline highly preferred
  • Professional Engineer’s or Architectural License highly preferred, but not required
  • 3+ years of directly related experience including extensive on-site experience
